Jonathan M. Farrell-Higgins, Ph.D. has been in private
practice for 17 years, all of it in association with Shadow Wood
Clinical Associates. He received his undergraduate Psychology Bachelor’s
Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and
then earned his Master’s Degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology
from the University of Kansas.
Following graduate school, Dr. Farrell-Higgins completed his Psychology
Internship at the Topeka Veteran’s Administration Medical
Center (VAMC) in 1988.
In addition to his private work, Dr. Farrell-Higgins has experience
in various settings including community mental health facilities
in Wisconsin and Kansas. He also has considerable experience in
working with veterans at the Topeka VAMC.
Dr. Farrell-Higgins has an extensive background in providing generalist
psychotherapy services to a wide range of clientele. In addition,
he has enjoyed supervising and training predoctoral psychology interns
and Master’s level Practicum students.
He has taught extensively at the Topeka VAMC, and lectured at Washburn
University, KU, and various local and regional events. Dr. Farrell-Higgins
is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Kansas
Psychological Association.
In his private practice, Dr. Farrell-Higgins enjoys providing therapy
services to individuals, couples, and families.

The length of therapy ranges from very short-term solution-focused
treatment to longer-term therapy to address more chronic and difficult-to-treat
problems. His clients range in age from 12 to older adults.
Special interest areas include mood disorders such as depression
and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders (such as PTSD and panic
disorder), behavioral problems/school problems, parenting, grief
and loss, anger management, resolving marital conflicts, ADD/ADHD,
and personal growth issues.
Dr. Farrell-Higgins is also knowledgeable about and sensitive to
clients’ spirituality and faith beliefs. In addition to providing
therapy, when requested, he is able to conduct psychological assessments
to clarify diagnostic issues and better serve clients.
Therapy appointments are scheduled for late afternoons and evenings
from 5-9 p.m., and Saturdays from 9-1. Appointments can be made

Wood Clinical Associates.
