Education, Licensing, Certification
Gwen Petersen received her graduate degree from Washburn University.
In addition to her credentialing as a licensed clinical social worker,
she has an advanced certification in victim survivor services from
the Joint Center on Violence & Victim Studies, certification
in Trauma Therapy from the national Trauma and Loss Center, certification
in the Modified Approach to Partners in Parenting, and specialized
training in biofeedback.
History of Practice
Prior to joining Shadow Wood Clinical Associates, Gwen had a 15-year
career as a licensed social worker. Over the years her work included
Victim Witness Coordinator for the Shawnee County District Attorneys
Office, Domestic Violence Counselor for the Battered Womens Task
Force, and out-patient psychotherapist for Valeo.
Areas of Specialization/Clinical Interest
Gwen is adept at working with children, adolescents, adults and
seniors. She assists her clients in learning how to deal with their
problems and recognize their strengths using individual, couple,
family, and group therapy. Gwen is skilled at working with people
who are experiencing stressful life problems related to adjustment
and development as well as having special expertise in helping people
who have experienced severe trauma.

Gwen has worked with domestic violence, sexual assault, childhood
sexual abuse, homicide co-victimization, behavior management of
children, grief and loss, mood disorders, marital problems, divorce,
career challenges as well as a variety of mental health problems.
She is passionate about assisting clients resolve these mild to
severe life challenges. Dependent on client needs Gwen incorporates
biofeedback and stress reduction techniques as adjuncts to psychoeducation,
cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma therapy and play therapy.
